Spain's best golf courses can take you from the Mediterranean views of Mallorca to the tournament fairways of Girona and the classic clubs of Sotogrande. Our five-course selection, compiled by our travel team, offers a taste of the country's impressive variety.
The countdown runs from Alcanada to Valderrama, with the order reflecting our team's preferences. To choose the right course for your own trip, compare the playing character, region and visitor arrangements below. Once you have a shortlist, our Spain golf holidays page brings together the wider destination options.
| Course and region | Best for | Trip-planning point |
|---|---|---|
| Club de Golf AlcanadaAlcúdia, northern Mallorca | Mediterranean scenery and an island holiday with a demanding feature round. | Compare an Alcúdia base with the driving involved from Palma or the south-west. |
| Real Club de Golf SotograndeSotogrande, western Costa del Sol area | Classic Robert Trent Jones design and carefully defended greens. | A natural pairing with Valderrama on a Sotogrande-based itinerary, subject to visitor access. |
| Las Colinas Golf & Country ClubSouthern Costa Blanca | A modern championship layout with extensive practice facilities. | Choose accommodation around southern Costa Blanca if Las Colinas is your priority. |
| Camiral Stadium CourseNear Girona, Costa Brava region | A testing tournament course within a two-course resort. | Request the Stadium by name; Camiral also has the more forgiving Tour Course. |
| Real Club ValderramaSotogrande, San Roque | Ryder Cup heritage and a precision-led bucket-list round. | Confirm restricted visitor availability and the required forecaddie before fixing the rest of the trip. |
Located near Port d'Alcúdia in Mallorca, Alcanada Golf Course offers spectacular views over the Mediterranean Sea. Designed by Robert Trent Jones Jr. and opened for play in 2003, this challenging and rewarding course blends naturally into the landscape.
The opening hole is a good indication of the test that lies ahead. Position from the tee matters, and even a well-placed drive leaves decisions about how much risk to take with the next shot. The scenery is a major attraction, but this is a course that deserves your full attention.
How to build a trip around it: stay near Alcúdia if Alcanada is the main event, or plan a dedicated golf day if your hotel is around Palma. Explore Mallorca golf holidays for accommodation options and our Mallorca golf course guide for a broader island comparison.
Real Club de Golf Sotogrande, near Gibraltar at the western end of the Costa del Sol golf region, was Robert Trent Jones Sr.'s first course in Europe. Opened in 1964, it remains a compelling choice for golfers who appreciate classic course design.
The par-72 course is only a short distance from the Mediterranean Sea. It features long teeing grounds and wide fairways leading to guarded, elevated greens. The green complexes are central to the challenge: having room from the tee does not remove the need for precision on the approach.
The calibre of previous winners reflects the club's golfing history, with names including Seve Ballesteros, José María Olazábal, Sergio García and Rory McIlroy. The design tempts you to take risks, making judgement as important as ball striking.
How to build a trip around it: combine it with other Sotogrande-area courses and choose a base towards this end of the coast. Compare the location with your other rounds when arranging a Costa del Sol golf holiday.
Situated on the southern Costa Blanca near San Miguel de Salinas, Las Colinas Golf & Country Club was designed by Cabell B. Robinson. Its par-71 layout offers a varied test, with changes of pace that encourage you to think about when to attack and when to play for position.
Despite providing a good test for golfers, the course is fair. Its wider fairways offer some breathing space, while the approach shots still need care. The practice facilities include a short-game area designed by Miguel Ángel Jiménez, a grass practice area and a putting green.
How to build a trip around it: use Las Colinas as a feature round on a southern Costa Blanca golf break. Check the hotel location carefully when comparing packages, as a stay around Alicante or Benidorm creates a different driving itinerary from one near the course.
The Stadium Course at Camiral is the course many golfers still know as PGA Catalunya Stadium. Located near Girona in north-eastern Spain, the resort has two courses: the Stadium and the Tour. Camiral has been confirmed as the host venue for the 2031 Ryder Cup.
Our team's view: The Stadium Course is one of the best golf courses we've played anywhere in the world.
It is unusual to find so many memorable holes on one course. Trees, bunkers and water hazards make the Stadium a demanding round, while the Tour Course provides a shorter, more forgiving companion. Together they offer two distinct golfing experiences within the same resort.
How to build a trip around it: request the Stadium specifically if it is the reason for travelling, then consider the Tour Course for another round. Start with our Costa Brava golf holidays and compare staying at the resort with a Girona-based trip.
Located in Sotogrande, San Roque, Real Club Valderrama is a bucket-list golf course and our number one choice from this shortlist. Its appeal comes from the combination of exacting golf, presentation and tournament history.
Who can forget the pivotal moments of the 1997 Ryder Cup? Seve Ballesteros captained Europe to victory at the first Ryder Cup held in continental Europe. Playing here brings that history into the round, particularly as you reach the closing holes.
The fourth hole, La Cascada, remains a favourite: a par five that rewards precision. That theme runs throughout Valderrama, where finding the right position can matter more than simply hitting the ball farther.
How to build a trip around it: check this round before committing to the rest of your arrangements. Valderrama is a private club with restricted visitor times and a mandatory forecaddie per group. Confirm the date, handicap requirements and full playing cost, then consider Real Club de Golf Sotogrande as another priority round nearby.
These courses sit in four different holiday areas. For a short break, choosing one region gives you more time to enjoy the golf and a clearer choice of accommodation.
There is plenty more to Spanish golf beyond these five courses. For other regional options, explore Costa de la Luz, Murcia or our Tenerife golf course guide.
Start with the course your group most wants to play. Establish whether a suitable visitor tee time is available, then fit the hotel and remaining rounds around it. This matters particularly at private clubs, where a hotel booking alone gives you no assurance of access.
Ask for a quote that names every course and includes the relevant extras: buggies, any required caddie or forecaddie, club hire and transport. Share the group's handicaps and mobility requirements early, and check planned maintenance for the travel dates. At Camiral, make sure the quote distinguishes between Stadium and Tour rounds.
Valderrama is our team's first choice from this five-course selection, with Camiral's Stadium Course second. The best choice for your own holiday also depends on the style of golf you enjoy, the region you want to visit and the visitor tee times available.
Yes. The resort formerly known as PGA Catalunya is now Camiral. It has the Stadium and Tour courses and has been confirmed as the host venue for the 2031 Ryder Cup. Specify the course you want when requesting a golf package.
Valderrama welcomes visitors within restricted tee-time arrangements. Confirm availability and the club's playing requirements before making travel commitments. A forecaddie is mandatory per group, so include that requirement when comparing the full cost of the round.
Valderrama and Real Club de Golf Sotogrande are the natural pairing because both are in the Sotogrande area. Camiral's Tour Course can accompany a Stadium round at the same resort. For Alcanada or Las Colinas, build the remaining rounds within Mallorca or the southern Costa Blanca respectively.
Tell us which of these courses you most want to play, your preferred dates, number of golfers and budget per person. We can help compare suitable regions and put together a golf holiday quote with the named rounds and accommodation clearly set out.
