Where to Play Golf in England
Golf in England is famous for the historical courses that host The Open Championship, although there are a lot more to explore. There is an extensive selection of resorts nationwide with a lot to discover, including some golfing gems that we highly recommend.
Here we run through our top recommendations for a golf holiday in England. The south-west has St Mellion International Resort; the South-East has a fantastic choice with our favourites The Grove. The Cotswolds have a few gems, and our selection here would be The Manor House. The list continues into the midlands where it has to be The Belfry, with three of the best golf courses to choose from on-site.
Moving further North to the North East, there is only one choice that has to be the fantastic Slaley Hall. Finally, for England, we would choose the fabulous Carden Park, a quality resort with golf to match.
Where to Play Golf in Wales
Another fantastic region to play golf on your UK golf break, which has a much more extensive selection of courses than initially meets the eye. Focusing on South Wales with one of our favourites is the only Welsh Venue to host the Ryder Cup, The Celtic Manor Resort. Just a few miles towards Chepstow, our next choice would be St. Pierre Marriott Golf & Country Club.
The last on our Welsh journey located near the Capital and vibrant city of Cardiff, is the fantastic golf and sports resort, The Vale Resort. Two championship golf courses plus much more it is a natural choice for golfers of all abilities.
Where to Play Golf in Scotland
When featuring the United Kingdom, you cannot forget the home of golf, which has a vast array of the best golf courses from which to choose. Synonymous with sweeping coastlines, craggy outcrops and sandy links courses; this region attracts visitors from worldwide, and it's clear to see why.
We have selected our favourites from the region, including the legendary Old Course Hotel at St Andrews. In terms of golf, you must play The Dukes Course and if you get the opportunity, the Old Course too. Just along the coast from St Andrews, we can highly recommend the Fairmont St Andrews Hotel with two excellent courses; The Torrance and The Kittocks.
Across to the west coast, we have selected another great venue, The Ailsa Course at the Turnberry Resort. The west coast is littered with famous names, and there are a few less-known masterpieces to discover too. We love Turnberry as a base; as the hotel and facilities are just stunning. The views across to Ailsa Craig are unbeatable also.
Next on our list is another British Open venue in the Carnoustie Hotel & Spa; three fantastic examples of championship golf courses, and accommodation second-to-none. Our last but not least is the Gleneagles Hotel with its world-famous PGA Century, Kings and Queens golf courses.
