The course was designed by the renowned North American architect, Cabell B. Robinson, who has put his name to some of the top courses, not only in Europe but the world. Las Colinas Golf and Country Club is another excellent addition to golf courses in Spain.
The experience of playing at Las Colinas begins with the approach to the club, which is a pleasant drive through a lane, with plenty of nature to enjoy on either side of the road. The area surrounding the course is being developed but it’s been done in a tasteful way and does not distract in any way from the course.
The interior of the clubhouse is well presented and blends in nicely with the surroundings. The staff are very friendly and helpful and although you will be tempted to head up to the balcony for breakfast, you should get on the course as soon as possible. You will not be disappointed.
The fairways at Las Colinas tend to be wide and along with the greens are very well maintained. However, this does not mean the course is easy and you need to be on your game to hit a low score. The terrain can be very undulating at times, both on the fairway and the green, and the length of the course is demanding. You will be grateful for your buggy and should not attempt to walk the course.
To play the holes at Las Colinas in regulation can be tough, especially the par-4’s and you must be prepared for the wind, which can make things more difficult on the course. The tree-lined hills help to give the course a feeling of seclusion and the lakes dotted around the course add to the challenge, especially on the final six holes, where only the 17th is water-free.
A great mix of holes will see you need to play a long, accurate tee shot at the start of one hole, followed by a shorter, lay-up shot on the next hole. You must be thinking all the time when playing Las Colinas and planning your shots carefully. Some par-4 and par-5 holes will allow you to unwind with the driver whereas others will see you opting for a shorter club and a more precise shot. Despite providing visitors with a good test, the course is fair and low scores are achievable.
With Troon Golf managing the course, you are guaranteed first-class service and facilities at Las Colinas Country Club. The course has been crowned the best in Spain at the World Golf Awards in both 2015 and 2016 and is regarded as a must when playing golf in Costa Blanca.
