Where is Pestana Silves?
Situated at the foot of the Monchique mountain in the Algarve. Located in-between the popular towns of Lagos and Albufeira, the course is easy to reach and you can choose to base yourself in one of these places or use the accommodation belonging to the Pestana Group.
Thanks to being just an hour away from Faro Airport, the golf course is an international venue and it’s possible to catch direct flights from many European cities and others around the world.
With tremendous mountain views, palm trees and olive groves plus the surrounding cork and citrus farms, having the feeling of a true Portuguese golf course.
You will be taken aback by some of the holes on Pestana Silves golf course and there are surprises around every corner. This is not the easiest golf course you will play in Portugal and those with a low handicap will find it a great challenge while those with a high handicap will enjoy the test of finishing under par.
The first hole sets the tone for the round and you have water on both sides of the fairway which come into play from the tee for long ball strikers. Getting the ball on the fairway off the tee is very important as the rough can be tough to escape. The course can give the feeling of being open thanks to some wide fairways and this tempts you to get out the driver but leave the fairway and trouble awaits.
Holes 5 and 13 are two which live long in the memory and the same lake comes into play on both. On the 5th hole, the water is to the left on the approach to the green whereas, on the 13th hole, the water forms a dogleg to the left and can prove tricky to avoid and leave a good angle to the green.
Pestana Silves is well looked after and you are guaranteed good playing conditions all year round, making it a great choice as part of a Portugal golf holiday.
