Salgados Golf Course opened in 1994 and is a great golf course with lots and lots of water. The Course was converted from a former aircraft landing strip and a wetland area opposite the famous bird sanctuary.
Salgados is one of the Algarve’s most unique golf courses…
The course has the feel and ambience of a Scottish Links but with a Floridan atmosphere. Almost every hole is designed with water hazards in play.
The 18 holes Salgados Golf Course is located adjacent to the beach of Praia de Gale/ The location is overlooking and taking the nature reserve and is very much more associated with a typical Links Course. An open golf course not only is design but also to the elements, therefore it little vegetation and plenty of water hazards. A popular course and with very good reason.
Our Signature Hole:
The seventh is a testing par 4 measuring just over 400 yards, You will need to be precise from the tee. The hole runs adjacent to the bird sanctuary. The strong prevailing wind and the tightness of the fairway play a huge factor in the importance of getting a good drive away. The second shot also requires a high level of accuracy with greenside hazards waiting to punish wayward shots.
The Clubhouse is very well equipped and a lovely place to relax with a cool beer post-round. The Terrace overlooking the golf course is a real suntrap and although the Atlantic breeze will make sure that you never feel too hot, Make sure that you put on that sun lotion. The Clubhouse offers a fine range of local and international beers on draught as well as a decent local wine list. The Steak Sandwich is a real winner too.
