Celtic Manor Golf Resort is regarded as one of the best UK golf resorts and is the brain-child of Sir Terry Matthews, a self-made Welsh billionaire, who returned from Canada purchasing the land and the original Celtic Manor House. This estate was also the site of the Lydia Beynon maternity hospital, where Terry was born back in 1943. After a mere £150 million investment, Celtic Manor was created, building a brand new golf course and clubhouse in 2009, which brought the Ryder Cup to Wales for the very first time the following year in 2010. This event which some say put Golf in Wales on the golf break map extended into a fourth day, due to heavy rain, before G-Mac (Graeme McDowell) holed a late putt to win the cup for Team Europe.
The original 400 room resort Celtic Manor Hotel has diversified since its inception, and now has a selection of accommodation options to choose from. Depending on your specific preferences, guests now have a phenomenal choice of accommodation; the original Resort Hotel, The Hunter Lodges (can be self-catered), The Manor House (very close to the Main Forum Health Club), The Coldra Court Hotel (five minutes drive away in the Usk Valley) and Newbridge on Usk (a short two-mile drive away) a quirky and quaint alternative in peaceful surroundings. Whichever one you choose, they all provide top-class accommodation designed to compliment the Celtic Manor Gold experience.
Relaxation is not a problem at Celtic Manor, with the option to book a Celtic Manor spa day at either of the two great pampering options. At the main golf club, you will find Dylan’s Health Club and the Ocius treatment rooms providing massage and various beauty and well-being treatments. Alternatively, in the main hotel, you can experience the award-winning Forum Spa for yourself, with an indoor heated pool 16 treatment rooms with a wide range of treatments and beauty therapies.
With a large number of accommodation options comes an even more extensive selection of gastronomy. There are eight restaurants to choose from on-resort; ranging from Steak On Six, an adult-only award-winning steak restaurant, to the Rafters Restaurant located at the Twenty Ten golf clubhouse. The clubhouse offers simple and elegant cuisine using the very best in local produce – including afternoon tea with the bonus of stunning views out across the Twenty ten golf course.
Restaurants and Bars at Celtic Manor
Drinks on the resort can be enjoyed at one of the 8 bars located around the resort. One of the favourites is the Merlins bar, situated in the heart of the resort; this buzzy bar offers a selection of hot toddies by the fire or Champagne and cocktails on the terrace. In essence, it a popular choice and rightly received the Best Bar from the Welsh Hospitality awards in 2016, 17 & 2019.
The resort also has meeting space second-to-none and will shortly host the International Golf Travel Market in October 2020 hosting suppliers from all corners of the Golf Tour Operating Industry.
In summary, The Celtic Manor Resort has more to offer than most of us could appreciate in just one visit, so we looking forward to welcoming you and providing you with some great deals to experience this fantastic Hospitality Venue.
