St. Pierre Golf Courses

The Old Course

Your next Wales golf break at the fabulous Marriott St. Pierre gives you the option of two fantastic golf courses.
The Old course is our customers most favoured golf course available to play. Opened in 1962, the old course has had its fair share of golfing royalty grace its fairways, taking famous victories in several European Tour events. Winners include five former Ryder Cup captains Seve Ballesteros, Ian Woosnam, Bernhard Gallagher, Bernhard Langer, and Tony Jacklin. In 1980 native German Bernhard Langer claimed the first-ever victory for a German Golfer in the British Masters.

Great Course Design

Being a course rich in history, over 58 years you can expect a very mature layout that was cleverly designed by Charles Kenneth Cotton with Frank Pennink, a pivotal course designer in the golden age of course design.
The course has been loved and cherished over the years and in 2008 saw a significant redesign of a number of the holes by Ross McMurray from European Golf Design.
The Old Course at St. Pierre is a fabulous place to tee up and recognised as one of the best parkland golf courses in the UK.
Set in the Wye Valley's natural surroundings and the rolling south wales countryside, the course is a challenging layout that requires full focus.

Two of the finest Finishing Holes.

The first hole is a tight tree-lined long Par 5 at 574 Yards and finding the fairway is vital in ensuring that you get your round off to a good start. The first few holes offer elevated views over the Bristol Channel and the Severn estuary bridges and create a tough start to your round. Once through the initial opening holes, the course does open up a bit, and you will start to see some scoring opportunities. The back nine is where you will see some of the courses truly amazing golf holes and the most memorable.
The finishing two holes are two of the finest in golf, The midlength Par 4 17th has a great design and works its way to a tricky green surrounded with water.
The 18th is a fantastic and tight finishing hole, and you will step onto an elevated tee box firing away a tee shot to this 236+ Yard Par 3 where anything short is going to be wet.
The Old Course at St. Pierre is a real treat of the golfing senses and just simply never disappoints.

The Mathern Course

The Mathern Course at St. Pierre is considerably shorter than the Old Course but compliments the St. Pierre Resort perfectly.
The course is very mature and opened for play in 1975 and again redesigned by Ross McMurray in 2008.
Although shorter in length the golf course is still a tight affair and at Par 72 5730 yards still provides a challenging test of golf while winding through the simply stunning natural beauty of the Monmouthshire countryside. The signature hole would be the 14th hole stroke index 2 Par 4. This dogleg right requires a good tee shot down the left-hand side of the fairway to open up your second shot to a minuscule green with gentle slopes and little room for error.

A Great Second Course

The Mathern course is part of the Marriott St. Pierre Golf & Country Club's fantastic setup, where you are guaranteed to enjoy a memorable golf break in Wales. Located just over the Severn Bridge you will find stunning accommodation in the form of a 14th Century manor home.
The Marriott St.Pierre is a fantastic value venue; with two championship courses and a superb spa and excellent dining options. The resort is just incredible value when you consider that you can get a Sunday Driver one night with dinner, bed and breakfast plus one round of golf on each of the two courses from as little as £87.00 per person.
If you are considering a short golf break in the Welsh countryside, you can not go wrong with the Marriott St. Pierre golf & country club.
