The Vila Gale Albacora Overview

The hotel Vila Galé Albacora results from the restoration of the former tuna fishing camp Arraial Ferreira Neto. The "people of the sea" associated with tuna fishing lived from March to September.

This hotel in Tavira, set in the vast Ria Formosa Natural Park, is thus an architectural witness to the way of life of fishermen and their families back when the traditional Almadrava - the frame used to catch tuna - was still in use.

The old fishermen's houses, workshops, and warehouses have been converted into 161 rooms with stunning views of the Ria Formosa. The existing chapel has been preserved and is now used for weddings and christenings, as has the old school, which has been converted into a kids' club. And the former bakery was converted into a restaurant.
