Choosing the right area matters as much as choosing the courses. A short stay around Swansea gives you a different itinerary from a tour of North Wales or a resort break near Newport. Use this guide to narrow down the golf, then compare accommodation and packages on our Wales golf holidays page.

North Wales provides dramatic golf in equally striking landscapes. Nefyn brings the clifftops, Royal St David's sits below Harlech Castle, and Aberdovey offers traditional links farther down the coast. They make a memorable touring shortlist, but check the driving route before trying to fit all three into a short weekend.
Nefyn & District sits on the northern coastline of the Llŷn Peninsula in north-west Wales. Its 27 holes combine clifftop scenery with a more inland test, making it an appealing choice for golfers who want the setting to be part of the experience.
Check which holes you are booking. The Championship 18 pairs the clifftop front nine with the inland back nine. The famous Point is a separate nine-hole addition, subject to availability; a standard 18-hole booking does not guarantee play on the Point.
The Aberdovey Golf Club is located near the mouth of the Dovey Estuary. Set between the coastline and a mountain backdrop, it offers the changing wind and running turf that make traditional links golf so absorbing.
Choose Aberdovey if you enjoy shaping a round around the conditions rather than relying on distance alone. The village is also known by its Welsh name, Aberdyfi. It works as a base for a dedicated visit or a further stop on a west-coast tour; allow enough time for the journey from Harlech.
The grandeur of Harlech Castle hovers over you as you play at Royal St David's, with Tremadog Bay and the mountains of Eryri providing the wider backdrop. It is one of the distinctive settings that makes a North Wales golf tour so rewarding.

South Wales combines coastal links with established stay and play resorts. Charming coastal villages, castles, city nightlife and local food give you plenty to enjoy after golf. For a short break, decide whether your priority is the Porthcawl coast, Swansea and Gower, or golf and accommodation together at a resort.
For many golfers, Royal Porthcawl is the jewel of Welsh links golf. The course offers a beautiful backdrop, rolling down to the beach, with sea views throughout the round. Its championship history includes the Senior Open and the 2025 AIG Women's Open.
The changing wind direction is part of the challenge, so expect to use more than one kind of shot. Make this the priority round if it is the main reason for your trip, then arrange accommodation and nearby rounds at Pyle & Kenfig or Southerndown around the available tee time.
Known affectionately as P&K, Pyle & Kenfig shares the Porthcawl stretch of coastline with Royal Porthcawl. Its two loops of nine have contrasting characters: the outward holes take you inland, while the inward nine heads into the dunes.
That change of terrain gives the round a sense of progression, especially when the wind strengthens. The club staged Final Qualifying for the 2025 AIG Women's Open. It is a strong second round for a Porthcawl-based trip, with its own identity rather than simply acting as a substitute for its neighbour.
Southerndown is a downland course with links character at Ogmore-by-Sea, near Bridgend. Its limestone setting, sandy turf and heathland vegetation give it a different feel from the dune courses nearby. It is also home to the Duncan Putter amateur tournament.
The wind is frequently an influence, as is the thick gorse, which is about the only thing the grazing sheep do not appear interested in nibbling. Include Southerndown when you want variety within the Porthcawl and Bridgend area, without moving the whole trip to another region.
With its seaside location on the Gower Peninsula near Swansea, Pennard Golf Club is well worth a visit. Known as the links in the sky, it combines an elevated setting with views across the Gower coast.

The Twenty Ten Course hosted the memorable 2010 Ryder Cup, bringing the competition to Wales. Today, its water hazards and risk-and-reward choices give visiting golfers a chance to tackle the same tournament setting.
For a Celtic Manor golf break, request the Twenty Ten by name. Roman Road and the Montgomerie are separate courses, so compare the exact rounds included in each package. Allow time for the arrival process too: the resort currently advises reaching the Twenty Ten clubhouse at least 60 minutes before your tee time.
As well as its coastal courses, South Wales provides excellent stay and play choices. These three resorts suit groups who prefer hotel facilities and more than one course at the same venue. Compare them on the golf you will actually play and the full package cost.
Choose for: a resort stay built around the Twenty Ten, Roman Road and Montgomerie courses.
Ask for a package specifying the Twenty Ten if the Ryder Cup experience is essential. Confirm your hotel, meals and any buggy charges alongside the course allocation.
Choose for: two-course variety on the Wales National and Lake courses, with hotel and leisure facilities together.
Compare a round on each course with any alternative allocation offered for your dates. It is an option for groups who want resort golf and time in Cardiff.
Choose for: an estate setting with the Old and Mathern courses at Delta Hotels by Marriott St Pierre Country Club.
Check whether your quote includes one round on each course, dinner and breakfast. This is a separate Chepstow base, rather than a hotel beside the Porthcawl links.
For another inland course option, the Rolls of Monmouth remains worth considering. For a coastal tour, choose accommodation around the rounds you want most; a resort farther east is not automatically the most convenient base for Swansea or Porthcawl.
Royal Porthcawl, Pyle & Kenfig and Southerndown form a useful South Wales cluster. Pennard and Langland Bay suit a Swansea and Gower trip. In the north-west, Royal St David's and Porthmadog can be paired, with Nefyn added when the schedule allows for the drive to the Llŷn Peninsula.
Nefyn's current visitor arrangement is based on the Championship 18. The Point is a separate extra nine, subject to availability. If those peninsula holes are the reason for your visit, raise this when enquiring and check the club's arrangements before travelling.
Check the named courses in your quote. Celtic Manor has the Twenty Ten, Roman Road and Montgomerie courses, and packages can have different allocations. Ask specifically for a Twenty Ten round rather than relying on the resort name alone.
A resort suits groups who want accommodation, dining and several rounds at one venue. A tour gives you a wider choice of independent courses and town-centre or coastal hotels. Start with the courses your group most wants to play, then compare the total cost and travel involved in each option.
