Tenerife is a Spanish island well-known around the world as being a top holiday destination. Tenerife has become a major holiday destination. Especially for people living in Europe thanks to the great climate which lasts the whole year.
The Canary Islands are famous for attracting holidaymakers who enjoy relaxing on the beach, hiking, nature, and a lively nightlife.
However, Tenerife is also a great place for golf lovers. Where you can combine any or all the above with a round of golf. You are spoilt for choice when it comes to Tenerife, Also, the whole of the Canary Islands but one of the best must be Las Americas.
Situated close to Playa Las Americas and Los Cristiano. Two of the most popular destinations in Tenerife. Las Americas is very easy to reach and is located on the main road which leads to the airport.
The course is an 18-hole par-72 which measures just over 6,500 yards in length. This makes quite a short course by modern standards but that doesn’t mean it is not a challenge and it certainly provides a good test of players' abilities.
The course is set up in a standard manner. With two par fives, five par fours, and two par threes on each 9-hole loop. Both loops offer some pleasant elevation changes throughout with the front 9 holes being the more undulating.
Water comes into play on several holes but never seems to dominate proceedings. Four of the first five holes feature water but only two of these require a shot over water. One of which is a narrow stream. How much the water comes into play on the other holes depends on your choice of shot and whether you would like to attack by cutting across the edge of the water or play safely along the fairway.
It's these types of decisions that make Las Americas a fun course to play and you will find you are thinking more about your club selection and choice of a shot than anything else.
The 13th hole is the one that stays the longest in the memory for many visitors, as the green is surrounded by water on three sides. Yet, the water is far enough away from the putting surface to make you feel confident in keeping your ball dry.
The quality of the greens and course presentation are two of the many factors which have people returning to Las Americas time and time again.
Thanks to its location, you can enjoy a round of golf prior to or directly following a flight and this makes it a great choice at any time during a golf holiday on the island.
