Golf Holidays in Alvor

Alvor is an excellent region for a relaxing Algarve golf break. Located in centrally near Silves, Portimao and Praia da Rocha. There are a number of good quality golf courses nearby including Penina, Espiche and Morgado.

Some excellent golf resorts are in the area, including the legendary Penina, designed by Sir Henry Cotton. The challenging course at Penina is one of the most popular in Portugal and is sure to test even the most dedicated golfers.

For those interested in a bit of local culture and charm on their golf travels, look at the Algarve coastal town of Portimao. The town has several traditional Portuguese restaurants and lovely beaches, including the stunning Praia de Alvor. Several good golf courses also exist, including the award-winning Silves Golf Club. This region offers stunning beaches, wooden boardwalks (passados de Alvor), and quaint local restaurants within a traditional fishing harbour.

If you're interested in a golf break with a more lively nightlife scene, then Albufeira, further towards Vilamoura, is the place to be.

Palmares Golf Course

Onyria Palmares is a lovely course in one of the most beautiful cities in Portugal. It was designed by Frank Pennink and opened in 1975, and it has hosted numerous amateur and professional tournaments over the years. It's easy to understand why this golf course is ranked inside the top 100 courses in Europe as well as the top 10 courses in Portugal.

The golf course is a beautiful setting, with great views of Lagos Bay and Monchique Hills. The course has a mix of links-style and parkland holes, which makes it a challenge for players of all abilities. Five of the holes are on the dunes next to the Atlantic Coast.

Pestana Alto Golf Country Club

One of the most compelling reasons to play a round of golf at Pestana Alto is to test your skills on one of Europe's longest holes. The par-5 16th, also known as the "Giant" and the "Sir Henry challenge," is a monster with massive fun trying to control it.

Pestana Alto Golf is a challenging and delightful course. It is of excellent quality, with lovely views of the bay of Lagos from the front nine and rolling hills from the back nine.

Vale da Pinta Golf

This 18-hole course is located in the hills overlooking the ocean, providing beautiful views as you play. The Pestana Pinta golf course is no exception, and the Algarve's golf courses are of a very high level.

Gramacho Golf Course

The Gramacho golf course is worth playing when visiting the Algarve on a golf trip because it has two different nines. The first nine holes are played through the cork trees and are quite tight, while the back nine is much more open. The views of the Monchique Mountains and the Atlantic are beautiful.

Penina golf course

This championship golf course, designed by Sir Henry Cotton, is one of the most famous in Portugal. The course is a real test for any golfer, with tight fairways and well-guarded greens. The views over the Bay of Alvor are simply stunning.

Day 1

• Arrive at Faro airport and you will be greeted by our friendly drivers, who will be waiting to take you down to the to Alvor which is located approximately 45 minutes away from the airport.
• Check-in to one of the many Alvor Hotels, for best Value for money we recommend the Pestana Dom Joao II Hotel
• Un pack your bags and head down to the hotel bar for a quick drink before heading out into Alvor, to explore its tremendous cafes, bars, restaurants and shops. 
• Enjoy your first evening out – For dinner perhaps try Sports Café Alvor which is one of our personal favourites and a great place to watch all of the lice sport with a burger.

Day 2

• Head down for breakfast in the hotel restaurant.
• We can arrange private hire transfers to be waiting for you in the lobby ready to take you off to play golf.
• Play Gramacho Golf Course - The Portuguese Ladies Open was staged at The Gramacho Course in 2005 and 2007. An 18-hole round is a true test due to the placement of the greens and bunkers used in the creation of the layout. The site's natural features, such as its fig, carob, and olive trees, dry stone walling, and boulder outcrops, have been enhanced with strategically placed lakes and bunkers. A very good test of golf.
• Head back to the Alvor for an evening at leisure. Try Ruccula for diner – Recommendation , The Lamb Shanks are superb.
• for dinner.

Day 3

• Head down for breakfast in the hotel restaurant
• We can arrange private hire transfers to be waiting for you in the lobby ready to take you off to play golf.
• Play Silves Golf Course - One of the most recent courses to open, Silves Golf Course offers a genuine taste of the Algarve with its setting among fruit orchards and small farms. A player's skill in hitting a well-directed ball with the appropriate club choice will be put to the test by the course's very pretty layout. 
• Head back to the Alvor for an evening at leisure. Try Mozambi for diner – A tremendous African restaurant with superb shellfish.

Day 4

• Head down for breakfast in the hotel restaurant

• Play Vale Da Pinta Course – Vale de Pinta in the Algarve has hosted the European Seniors Tour Qualifying Finals for eight years running, and for good reason: the course is beautiful, tough, and really enjoyable to play.
• Head back to the Alvor for an evening at leisure. Try Capacho for diner – Superb Local Portuguese Cuisine.

Day 5:

• Check out.
• Head to reception where our friendly team of drivers will be waiting to pick you and take you back to Faro Airport.

Expert Tips:

You cannot pre-book or pre-pay buggies on the Pestana Golf Courses, they are readily available at the pro-shops but worth considering if buggies are absolutely essential for your rounds of golf. A large fleet of both electric trolleys and manual trolleys are also available from the clubhouse.
