The Costa del Sol or Golf as it is now known has over 80 golf courses stretching along its coastline, one of the newest, in fact just 14 years old is the fantastic Finca Cortesin golf course. Situated just a mile or so inland from the ocean, the golf course runs up through the valley adjacent to the village of Casares. This 18 Hole Championship golf course is one of the longest in Europe measuring just over 7,400 yards from the back pegs, although only 11 years old it already holds its own in the world of great golf courses. The course designed by the famous American architect Cabell Robinson took over from the West course at Wentworth and hosted the Volvo World Match Play Championship no fewer than three times in 2009, 2011 and 2012. Finca Cortesin is also the first golf course to ambitiously upgrade all of its greens to a new type of Ultra Dwarf Bermuda grass to Worldwide acclaim. It also received the 2018 IAGTO Sustainability Award for Resource Efficiency, with this award the golf course was moved up through the rankings and now stands at No 19 in the World a status that many who have played it agree it rightly deserves
