The Algarve is well known as a great place to take a golf break in Portugal but there are other regions of this lovely golfing nation that offers first-class golf courses. One of these regions is Lisbon and the surrounding area and here you can play around at Golf Quinta do Peru.
It takes only 30 minutes to reach Golf Quinta do Peru from the capital city of Lisbon and if you are flying in from abroad, the transfer is easy and hassle-free. Within one hour of landing, you can arrive at the course and be ready to play your first round.
Surrounded by Arrabida Natural Park, there is no better setting for a golf course and you will see the Arrabida mountains in the background. Close to the Setubal Municipality and the coast, you have plenty to keep you occupied away from the course with relaxing days on the beach or busy sightseeing excursions to the city and beyond.
This Portuguese golf course was established in 1994 and was designed by Rocky Roquemore. It was ranked as one of the ‘Top 100 Golf Courses in Continental Europe’ by Golf World magazine. This is another short course by modern golfing standards but that does not take away from a quality golfing experience, coupled with great facilities.
As highlighted above, this will not be the longest golf course you will ever play but that doesn’t make it a soft touch. The first hole is a par 5 and you immediately know you are in for a good test of golf on this course. Despite being straight, the fairway is narrow and there are 4 large bunkers to contend with, two on the left of the fairway, one on the right and one behind the green. Any misjudgement could see a tough second shot or escape onto the green.
Water is not in play regularly but does feature on two of the par-3 holes and the 8th and 16th holes require tee shots across the water to well-guarded greens. Anything drifting to the left on the 8th hole will see the ball land in sand and accuracy is key to many of the holes at Golf Quinta do Peru.
While you are not guaranteed a low score you may struggle to play to handicap on your first round, the course is always in splendid condition and opens year-round. Having played a couple of rounds, you will begin to learn the nuances of each hole and improve the more you play.
Golf Quinta do Peru is a challenging round of golf in a picturesque location and will have you coming back time and time again to test your skills and enjoy the natural environment.
This fantastic golf course can be included in your next golf holiday to Lisbon along with hotel accommodation to match your budget and any other requirements. Interested? Contact us today!
