Close to Setubal, 45 minutes drive south of Lisbon, near Palmela Castle, the Montado Golf Course is flanked by famous muscatel vineyards that were cultivated more than a century ago. This lovely Golf course has been designed by the Portuguese Duarte Sottomayor, who started his career working with the famous Robert Trent Jones.
The golf course, in the south of Lisbon, unfolds beneath old oaks and younger olive trees, chestnuts, and pines, planted when the course was first built while winding streams and natural lakes surround it.
In service since 1992, the Montado Golf Course required a catalyst to achieve the degree of quality it deserves. Extensive remodelling work was started in 2005 under the leadership of well-known Portuguese architect Jorge Santana da Silva. The entire layout of this championship designed golf course has been redesigned by creating new tees and greens that are already in excellent shape.
The highlight of the Montado Golf Course, situated in the south of Lisbon, Portugal, is without a doubt the 18th hole, where the green is situated on the island.
The 4 Star Montado Hotel is the perfect place to explore the local community, including some excellent golf. Eat delicious dinners and relax at Abaixo's on-site restaurant, or if you're after a little more nightlife, you can easily venture to Lisbon, which is only 30 minutes away, or to Setubal, if you want anything closer (10 min). The brand new clubhouse includes a spa, a sauna, an indoor pool, and some Turkish baths.
For tranquil golf in a beautiful setting, we would highly recommend Montado for your next golf holiday to the Setubal region of the Lisbon Coast.
