There is plenty of history surrounding the golf course, which was initially designed by Robert Trent Jones Sr. in 1968. Fast forward to 2015, and the course was given a facelift and reconstructed by Kyle Phillips, and between them, Real Club de Golf Las Brisas has become the stunning, highly-rated course we see today.

Although the course is quite long off the back tees, a sound strategy will pay more dividends than attempting to hit the ball as far as possible, however tempting it may be.

This course rewards good shot placement; the second hole is a testament to that. The dogleg right moves quickly uphill on approach to the green, which is perched at the top, and if you make it to this green in regulation, you have done a great job.

Although the course is relatively compact, this does not detract from a tremendous golfing experience and challenge. It features many elevation changes, with uphill par-four holes and downhill par-fives, providing the perfect balance of defensive-minded and attacking holes.

The superb bunkering comes into play on the back nine holes. The short 13th hole, which is a par four, has such good, thoughtful bunkering that despite the short length of the hole, it requires a great deal of strategy.
