Golf Courses Near Barcelona

Published Date: May 20, 2021
Article last updated: November 1, 2026

For a golf break based in Barcelona, Real Club de Golf El Prat, Llavaneras and Club de Golf Barcelona are three strong courses to compare. Each offers a different round within the wider Barcelona area, leaving room in the trip for the city's restaurants, architecture and evenings out.

Camiral's Stadium Course and Golf de Pals also deserve a place on the shortlist, but they involve longer journeys towards Girona and the Costa Brava. If those are the rounds you most want to play, compare our Costa Brava golf holidays with a Barcelona city stay before choosing your hotel.

Which golf courses are closest to Barcelona?

Of the five courses in this guide, El Prat, Llavaneras and Club de Golf Barcelona make the most straightforward starting points for a city-based itinerary. Camiral and Pals broaden the choice considerably, provided you build the travel into the holiday.

Distances are rounded guides from Barcelona. Your hotel, route and traffic will determine the actual transfer, so allow time for check-in and practice as well.
Course Location and travel guide Why consider it?
Real Club de Golf El Prat Terrassa, north of the city; around 35km from Barcelona. Greg Norman-designed championship golf, with 45 holes across the club's layouts.
Llavaneras Golf Club Sant Andreu de Llavaneres, on the Maresme coast; around 40km from Barcelona. An established 18-hole course with Mediterranean views and an emphasis on accuracy.
Club de Golf Barcelona Sant Esteve Sesrovires, west of the city; around 40km from Barcelona. José María Olazábal's demanding 18-hole Masia Bach course, plus a shorter nine-hole option.
Camiral Stadium Course Caldes de Malavella, near Girona; around an hour's drive from Barcelona in light traffic. A major championship test, with the Tour Course and two hotels at the same resort.
Golf de Pals Pals on the Costa Brava, roughly 130km from Barcelona. Plan a full-day outing or stay nearer the course. Traditional pine-lined golf beside Pals beach, particularly suited to a coastal golf holiday.

Real Club de Golf El Prat

Many national and international tournaments have been held at Real Club de Golf El Prat, one of Spain's leading championship clubs. Founded in 1912, the club is now based near Terrassa, north of Barcelona, where Greg Norman designed its 45 holes.

The attraction is the variety within one venue. Different combinations of holes provide different challenges, so the layout included in your booking matters. Rather than treating every El Prat round as the same experience, ask which 18-hole configuration is available for your dates and how it suits the group's handicaps.

El Prat belongs high on the list for golfers who want a substantial championship round during a Barcelona break. Pairing it with a coastal course such as Llavaneras also gives the golf a change of character without building the whole holiday around long journeys north.

Planning tip: the club is near Terrassa. Despite the name, it is not beside Barcelona-El Prat Airport, so give your driver the club's full name and address when arranging the transfer.

Llavaneras Golf Club

Llavaneras brings Mediterranean scenery to a Barcelona golf itinerary. Founded in 1945, the club sits on the Maresme coast, northeast of the city, and its 18-hole course has sea views that are a large part of the appeal.

This is a round where keeping the ball in position matters. The fairways and protected greens ask for control, giving golfers plenty to consider without relying on championship length alone. The par-four 17th is a particular highlight, with its elevated perspective towards the Mediterranean.

The course has evolved over time, including work by Fred Hawtree and later extensions. It offers a useful contrast to El Prat: choose it for coastal surroundings and a round that rewards thoughtful club selection.

Planning tip: compare a city-centre hotel with a Maresme coastal base if Llavaneras is central to the trip. A little thought about where you stay can make both the golf journey and the non-golf days easier.

Club de Golf Barcelona

Previously known as Masia Bach Golf Club, Club de Golf Barcelona is based in Sant Esteve Sesrovires, west of the city. Its main Masia Bach course was designed by José María Olazábal and has hosted professional tournaments, including the 2007 Catalonia Ladies Masters on the Ladies European Tour.

The 18-hole, par-72 layout is a good choice for golfers seeking a demanding round as part of a Barcelona tour. It is worth considering alongside El Prat when the golf itself is the priority, particularly for a group comfortable with a more testing course.

There is also a nine-hole Executive course. This is a separate, shorter option, so make sure the Masia Bach championship course is named in the quote if that is the round you intend to play.

Planning tip: a stay west of Barcelona can work well when this course features heavily in the itinerary. If evenings in the city are the priority, compare the complete hotel-to-course journey before settling on the base.

Camiral Stadium Course, formerly PGA Catalunya

Stadium Course at Camiral, formerly PGA Catalunya, near Girona
The Stadium Course at Camiral is a highlight of a Girona-area golf break.

The Stadium Course at Camiral, formerly PGA Catalunya, has been a prominent name in European golf since opening in 1999. Designed by Neil Coles and Ángel Gallardo, it combines a wooded setting with the demands of a championship venue.

The surrounding landscape adds to the charm, but the course asks you to concentrate. Trees, bunkers and water shape the decisions, and accurate approaches are an important part of the challenge. Choose tees that suit your game so that the difficulty adds to the enjoyment of the round.

The neighbouring 18-hole Tour Course gives the resort 36 holes and makes a two-round stay an appealing alternative to travelling out from Barcelona for a single day. Camiral is also the venue for the 2031 Ryder Cup, adding another reason to include it in a Spanish golf itinerary.

Where to stay: compare Hotel Camiral and LAVIDA Hotel for a resort-based break. Staying here gives you more time for the Stadium and Tour courses, with Barcelona added before or after the golf if you want a city stay too.

Golf de Pals, also known as Golf Platja de Pals

Golf de Pals on the Costa Brava in Spain
Golf de Pals suits a holiday built around the Costa Brava coast.

Designed by Fred Hawtree, Golf de Pals is set in a vast pine forest beside Pals beach. Its first holes opened in 1966, and the course hosted the Spanish Open in 1972, giving it a long-established place in the region's golf.

The pines give the round its identity. Narrower holes put a premium on finding the correct line, while the later, longer holes bring a different rhythm. It is an appealing choice for golfers who enjoy traditional course design and the challenge of plotting their way through woodland.

Pals is on the Costa Brava rather than in the immediate Barcelona area. It deserves its place in this guide as a longer excursion, but repeated return journeys from a city hotel would take a substantial bite out of a short break.

Where to stay: La Costa Hotel Golf & Beach Resort adjoins the course and puts the beach close at hand. It is a useful starting point for combining Pals with more golf and time on the coast.

Should you stay in Barcelona or on the Costa Brava?

The right base depends on how much of the holiday you want to spend in the city. These are the three approaches we would compare:

  • Barcelona city break with golf: focus first on El Prat, Llavaneras and Club de Golf Barcelona. Choose the hotel around your evening plans, then arrange the golf transfers from that address.
  • Golf at Camiral: compare Hotel Camiral with LAVIDA Hotel, and build the rounds around the Stadium and Tour courses. A separate Barcelona stay avoids making the same long return journey on successive days.
  • Coastal golf holiday: start with La Costa Hotel Golf & Beach Resort for Golf de Pals, then explore the wider Costa Brava golf holiday options.

Planning your golf transfers

Barcelona-El Prat Airport and Girona-Costa Brava Airport serve different parts of the trip. Barcelona is the natural starting point for a city stay, while Girona Airport is particularly convenient for Camiral. For Pals, compare the flight options alongside the onward transfer rather than choosing on air fare alone.

For a group, arrange enough vehicle space for passengers and golf bags, and agree the return collection as well as the outward journey. Barcelona traffic can change the timing considerably, so leave room for practice and check-in before the tee time.

If you are playing on an arrival or departure day, work back from the flight and the full journey. For a longer break, splitting the stay between Barcelona and the Girona or coastal area can give you more time in each destination.

Golf courses near Barcelona FAQs

Which courses in this guide suit a Barcelona city stay?

Real Club de Golf El Prat, Llavaneras and Club de Golf Barcelona are the most convenient starting points in this selection. They sit in different directions from the city, so the best combination depends on your hotel and how many rounds you want to play.

Is PGA Catalunya now called Camiral?

Yes. The resort formerly known as PGA Catalunya is now Camiral, a Quinta do Lago Resort. Its two 18-hole layouts are the Stadium Course and the Tour Course, so check which course is included when comparing golf packages.

Can you play Golf de Pals while staying in Barcelona?

It can be included as a longer day trip, but Pals is roughly 130km from Barcelona on the Costa Brava. If you want several rounds in that area, a coastal hotel or a split stay will usually make better use of your holiday time.

Can visitors play these Barcelona-area golf courses?

Visitor rounds can be requested, but tee times, handicap requirements and access conditions differ between clubs. Tell us the players' handicaps and preferred dates so the team can check suitable options, including the exact layout, buggy requirements and transfers.
