Empordà Golf Club
Empordà Golf Club, situated in the middle of the breathtaking stunning landscapes of the Emporda region, flanked by two of the region’s top-quality golf courses on the Costa Brava and just five minutes from some of Spain’s finest beaches and picturesque medieval villages. L’Empordà Golf is a 36 hole resort in the core of Baix Empordà and designed by Robert Von Hagge, one of the world’s leading course designers. It is almost impossible to choose which of the two courses is our favourite as both of excellent quality and in 2020 saw major redevelopment of the whole resort. Empordà’s 36 holes were originally organised as four loops of nine. The Links is made up of the original Green and Red nines and the Forest comprising the Blue and Yellow nines.
Empordà Links
Notably unique from its sibling Forest Course, the Emporda Links Golf Course is a challenging American style layout with plenty of bunkers and extra length to test your game. With fewer trees, the breeze can be far more of a factor on the Links Course than the Forest, and hence some standard links-style shots, such as a punch or bump & run, could become valuable tools if you want to post a respectable score here.
Inhabiting the grounds just south of the on-site and newly renovated 4-star Hotel Emporda Golf Resort, the Links Course has the same clubhouse as the Forest and provides a unique golf package to Stay and Play golfers when staying at this excellent Costa Brava golf resort.
Empordà Forest
The Forest Course at the magnificent Emporda Golf Club is characteristic of several of the highest quality tree-lined parkland courses in the UK and has parallels to other powerhouse golf courses such as Vilamoura’s Old Course.
Positioned slightly inland from the Mediterranean coast, along with its own outstanding on-site golf resort hotel – the Hotel Emporda Golf Resort – plus the sibling course of Emporda Links, this is a fantastic location for a golf resort in the Costa Brava region.
Always in good shape, the Forest Course at Emporda makes its way through some welcoming opening holes until the course starts to narrow as it scales somewhat to the tree-lined back-nine that can really do some damage to the scorecards due to the length and complexity.
The last few holes often test the very best golfers, with the highlight of the round being the par 5 eighteenth, which has an island green.
Emporda Golf Resort is a truly outstanding and somewhat an underrated hidden gem golf course, with regular flights to Girona and Barcelona from the U.K, This resort is certainly one that should be on more golfers radars visiting Spain.
