The course was developed in the early 1920s by the Cearn family on their private property. World Famous Golf Course architect Harry S. Colt designed this gem. It was leased to Croydon Council in the late 1930s with the understanding that it would still be kept as a public course.
It is a lovely parkland course that enjoys stunning views over central London. The course itself comprises a wide range of trees and offers a spectacular show of colours in the autumn months.
The course is laid out from the North Downs on the plateau that tops the middle of the ridges that run out towards Purley and stands 500 feet above sea level. It rules a wide stretch of hill and dale from the northern edge of London to Caterham Valley to the south. The Course is a solid Par 70 and measures at 6,073 which of course is short by today's standards however never the less a typical Harry Colt designed golf course.
