This fantastic golf course layout has views from al 18 holes towards the Atlantic Ocean and hosts several historical landmarks. The Tralee Golf Club.
This Arnold Palmer Design "Arnold Palmer's Jewel" is a true classic and a course that tests the very best of golfers. Palmer was to have said, "I have never come across a piece of land so ideally suited for the building of a golf course", and so he took the land and built what one of the best beautiful golf courses anywhere is, it was his first course in Europe, what an introduction to have.
With a relatively flat front nine you et the impression it is pleasurable to play and is not a tough golf course at all, Palmer has just used the natural terrain making hardly any changes to fit together nicely 9 beautiful looking golf holes. The holes hug the coastline, and much of the ground is elevated. The views are spectacular from the cliff tops across the Tralee bay and the Atlantic beyond.
[su_quote]I designed the first nine, but surely God designed the back nine.[/su_quote]
Arnold Palmer.
The back nine are far from this, and you need not take the golf course for granted. During your play on the back nine accuracies is paramount, and as is the case with true Links golf. The back nine plays up through the mountainous dunes and across ravines to tight plateau greens. Hit the right shot no problem, the wrong club and choice of shot and the golf course will make you pay dearly for it.
Tralee offers up so many great holes; it is difficult to choose a favourite. However, the 3rd hole is really the signature one, called "The Castle", this par 3 measures just under 200 yards from the back tees and it's the scenery, views, and layout are reminiscent of the 7th at Pebble Beach. The line into the green is to the left of the Castle ruin which stands like a sentry, left and to the green's back. Any shot right of the green will fall away down into the rock's abyss and the ocean below.
There are so many great golf courses in the South West of Ireland, and for us, Tralee has it all and is one of the true bucket-list greats that litter this fantastic Emerald Isle.
