The Oxfordshire is one of the UK's most loved golf courses, Designed by world-renowned golf course designers Rees Jones, Known best for courses such as Hazeltine and Medinah as well as Oakland Hills. The Oxfordshire was Rees Jones's first project in the UK and has seen some of the world's greatest golfers grace the fairways such as Colin Montgomerie, Seve Ballesteros, and Nick Fado.
Set in the beautiful Oxford countryside and with over 135 bunkers and 4 unmissable lakes to navigate between, Oxfordshire is highly ranked as one of the best golf courses in the British Isles.
The Oxfordshire opened for play in 1993 and is a true Rees Jones masterpiece. Although the course is fairly flat it is built to a very high American Style specification with huge bunkers, lush fairways and sand-based tees and greens.
In 1996 Laura Davis claimed the Ladies English Open at the Oxfordshire, which is set up just correctly for Tournament play.
The course is an absolute beast from the tips and measures well over 7,200 yards and presents an equally enjoyable experience from the yellow tees at 6,300 yards. The 17th is a real treat and the signature hole at The Oxfordshire, and one of the best holes of golf in the UK There are plenty of ways to play this signature hole which offers a second fairway for bailouts on this right to left dogleg around a vast lake. Taking on the lake is inevitable; the skill is in judging the optimal time, angle and shot to do so.
The 17th asks so many questions of you and is an absolute joy to play, and Pars are there for those who play the hole with a level of caution, Birdies are rare and require you to take on as much of the lake as possible with the big stick to stand a chance at setting up a great score. The course plays fair, very attractive to the eye and requires every shot you can think of.
The Oxfordshire is one of our favourite golf courses in the UK, and we highly recommend it for your next golf break.
