Perched on the South of Ireland's cliffs is the iconic Old Head of Kinsale, this 18 hole Championship Links course, hugs the coastline and clifftops with views that can only be described as breathtaking with all 18 holes having views of the sea.
This masterpiece of golf architecture was put together and designed by a committee comprised of Ron Kirby who led the way aided closely by Patrick Merrigan, Senior Tour player Liam Higgins, Eddies Hackett, and Joe Carr.
The course was designed to overwhelming club golfers that would more than likely deem the golf courses out-of-this-world. There are nine holes which run along the cliffs and more than just a few of them would set you back in awe when standing on the tee-box. One such hole is the par 3 4th hole, with a raised / elevated tee box makes the view even more exciting and the shot to the green inviting. With the hole clinging to the edge of the cliff, the dog-leg left squeezes between the rock-face and the precipice close overlooked by the guardian of Cork harbour the lighthouse. Needless to say, staying down and approaching from the right-hand is your only option anything left would say goodbye to your ball as it cascades to its watery grave below.
The golf course measures 7,159 yards from the back tee and has according to the scorecard has five par 5's eight par 4's and five par 3's. However, the weather can have more than just a bearing, depending on the strength of the wind and the direction to which it is blowing decides which, on any given day, the true par of each hole on the golf course.
This golf course is just one in a million and is a golfing experience bar none, one that all avid golfers young or old should play at least once in your lifetime.
It is a great and popular choice and one that should be added to your next Golf Tour of Ireland - bucket list golf at its very best.
