The Best Golf Courses in Hertfordshire

Hertfordshire is the perfect location to visit if you're looking for a challenging course. Each of the county's golf courses has unique demands and trademark holes. Here are a few of the greatest golf courses in the area that you should not miss.

Golfing in Hertfordshire: What to Expect

From rolling hills and manicured fairways to dramatic elevation changes and fast-running streams, these courses provide magnificent scenery and plenty of challenge.  Brocket Hall Golf Club, for example, is noted for its well-kept greens and picturesque surroundings, but West Herts Golf Club offers a demanding course with narrow fairways and numerous hazards.

The Grove Golf Club

The Grove Golf Club is an 18-hole championship golf course in Hertfordshire, England. The Grove was designed by acclaimed golf architect Kyle Phillips and opened for play in 2004. It has quickly become one of the premier golf courses in the country, hosting the WGC-American Express Championship in 2006 and, subsequently, the British Masters. The course is a true test of golf, with well-protected greens, plenty of bunkers, and water hazards to keep players on their toes. The Grove also offers a world-class practice facility, a driving range, a short game area, and a putting green.

Hadley Wood Golf Club

Hadley Wood Golf Club has two nine-hole loops, which can be played individually or as one eighteen-hole round. The first loop is set on the edge of ancient woodland, while the second loop offers views across farmlands and lakeside meadows. This course was designed by David McLay Kidd MBE, who also created Royal St. George's Golf Course in Sandwich, Kent. It is beautifully landscaped, with manicured fairways and natural greens that make for beautiful holes.

Moor Park Golf Course

Moor Park Golf Club is in Hertfordshire and has an 18-hole course. The famous golf architect, Harry Colt, designed the Moor Park Course in 1907. It has been rated as one of the top 100 courses to play by Golf Digest, and it's ranked 12th on Golf Monthly's list of best English golf courses. Moor Park is situated close to Watford city centre. From some holes, there are stunning views over the southeast section of London, including Hole 6, which overlooks Westbury Lane Cemetery.

Centurion Golf Club

The club has a friendly clubhouse located just outside St Albans, making it an ideal golfing destination for people staying in either St Albans or Hatfield. The Centurion Golf Club offers a unique and challenging experience for golfers of all levels. The course winds through beautiful forest land, and several signature holes make it a must-play for any local golfer. Let's look at some of the most notable features that golfers can expect.
The signature hole is undoubtedly the 15th; players tee off from an elevated position. Large mounds surround the green on three sides, offering no direct route to the pin except along the putting surface itself. The 17th is another brilliant par three.
