Snuggled in the foothills of the magnificent Llaberian Mountains and offering breathtaking views of the shimmering aqua Mediterranean Sea is the stunning Bonmont Golf Club.
Crafted by the world-famous course designer, Robert Trent Jones Jnr, the course comprises a vast stretch of rolling hills that is partitioned by numerous natural Barrancas-deep ravines that Jones has enclosed with stunning success in his design. Jones was blessed with the ideal canvas for Bonmont design and gave complete freedom to his imagination and ingenuity in the use of natural landscape and contours.
To improve the design, he added 90 of his signature cave bunkers and 6 lakes, resulting in a genuinely challenging course hosted by the European Tour Catalan Open within 12 months of its opening in 1991 and won by Jose Maria Olazabal and Paul Lawrie in 1996.
The wind is also a major element throughout Bonmont, and that both direction and intensity can change drastically, offering a difficult scoring test and one where club selection is imperative. Despite living in the foothills of the mountains, The course is actually very walkable, and a buggy is by no means a necessary necessity.
Bonmont offers what many other courses are trying to do, but ultimately fail to deliver. A design that is very good fun to play, preserved to the pinnacle of excellence and provides an interesting challenge to golfers of all abilities. No golfing holiday to the Costa Daurada can be done properly without a minimum of one round at Bonmont.
The Costa Daurada is a relatively uncovered region for golf breaks, however with excellent nightlife close by and world-class golf courses designed by the likes of Greg Norman and Robert Trent Jones, one that simply must be experienced to really appreciate.
Make sure that you do not rule out the Costa Daurada for your next golf break to Spain.
