Situated in southwestern Europe, on the Iberian peninsula. The country shares a border to the east with Spain and is surrounded by the Atlantic Ocean to the south and west. The capital city is Lisbon and Portugal is very easy to reach thanks to the choice of international airports, including Faro, Lisbon and Porto.
The climate differs depending on the time of year you visit and where you stay. For the most part, you can enjoy playing golf all year round but the south of the country has the best weather in the winter months between October and March.
Generally, the summers are hot and dry, while the winter sees the bulk of the wet weather. The temperature can change depending on where you stay but, in the summer, you can expect temperatures of over 30 degrees in Lisbon, the Alentejo and Algarve regions of the country. As you move into the interior, more mountainous regions of Portugal the temperature becomes milder and you will find some lovely golf courses to enjoy.
Portugal can be divided using the Tagus river and this separates the north from the south. The south features rolling plains, whereas the north becomes more mountainous and has an altogether more rugged feel about it.
In the southern region, you will find many Mediterranean features, including cork oaks, figs, olive trees and vineyards. The further south you go, the more you will notice cork and olive trees around the golf courses but there are also mountainous regions to enjoy to the north of the Algarve.
