Top Insider Tips for the Perfect Golf Break

It’s that time of year again when you need a break from the great British weather to play golf and relax in the sun. It is often daunting for group organisers, large or small, to please everyone in the group or even decide where to go. We have years of experience creating golf breaks for valued customers so here are our top insider tips for booking the perfect golf holiday.

  1. Weather

One of the key reasons for heading away from the UK! The southern coasts of Europe are very popular with golfers due to the beautiful weather enjoyed during the British Spring and Autumn. The Algarve and Spanish South Coast have an excellent choice of golf resorts.

So what is the perfect weather for golf? A personal preference, however, most clients enjoy golf when the weather is sunny, bright and not too hot.  Think of that perfect early summer day in the UK.  Also, consider the evenings when most groups will go out for a meal and want to stroll along to a few local bars.

Vilamoura in the Algarve enjoys average high temperatures of around 20c during March-May. Murcia in Spain has average highs of 24c during September-November.  Compare this to the UK average highs of 13c for March-May and 14c during September-November...and we won’t even mention rainfall and temporary greens!

For winter golf you have the choice to fly further south if you want to play golf in similar climates. Tenerife, Fuerteventura and Turkey are all excellent options.

  1. Travelling Time

There are three essential aspects to consider here; flight time, transfer time and club carriage.

Most groups in recent years have opted to find value flights with budget operators. We completely understand this as generally, clients want to spend their budget on golf, hotels and food rather than flights. If you can travel early during the week - you will often get the best prices.

Flight times do vary, however, generally the regions of southern Europe are a 2.5 - 3-hour flight from the UK.

Transfer time is an overlooked aspect of the golf break booking. We advise clients to consider this as, after an early rise and a 3-hour flight, groups tend to want a short transfer and get to the course or bar! This is why areas such as Vilamoura are so popular with only a 20-minute transfer for the airport.  One should also consider the comfort of the transfer too, as the group will have golf bags and luggage too. We can arrange more substantial vehicles or trailers to ensure the transfer is as spacious and comfortable as possible.

Group organisers can struggle to get consensus on golf club carriage too. As some golfers will want to use their clubs abroad, whereas others will be happy to hire a set for the duration (this can be a benefit as they are often new clubs and the latest models to test out!). Most airports in the regions we provide golf breaks have on-site club hire services. We can recommend trusted partners for you to use, rates are generally £35 for the week.

Early Booking. A large proportion of our resorts offer early booking discounts for up to 25%. Our advice is to start planning 9-12 months before travelling then you can take advantage of these exceptional deals. See our top golf escape deals currently available here.

  1. Great Golf Courses

One of the real benefits of playing golf abroad, we have a range of top quality golf courses which are all maintained to the highest standards.  Our golf travel experts can advise on the well-established courses and the hidden gems of Europe. Very dependent on the groups budget, we will, however, be able to find something to suit everyone.

Aerial of Hotel

It’s worth considering the standard of your group when choosing the courses. Our advisors can offer wide-open resort courses for those that want to play easier golf in the sun. Alternatively, we have some of the most challenging and picturesque courses in Europe on offer too.

  1. Entertainment

A golf break is not all about the golf! Our clients will often want local bars and restaurants nearby to the hotel. Most resorts are well located for apres-golf activities, some near beaches, marinas or local towns. One will find there is a premium to pay for the location, so it will depend on your budget.

Experience and Service Counts...

There are many other aspects to booking a golf holiday...our advice is to contact one of our golf holiday experts to discuss your options. We have over 40 years of experience between the team so we can offer opportunities for every type of golfing experience.

  • 5-star customer review: "Great company to book with. Being asked by a group of your best mates to organise a trip carries a great burden to get it right. Never having done this before I approached another company who were dreadful! Found 360 on Facebook and what a find! From initial discussions with Jeff to organising details with Marie so easy, helpful and pleasant. Numerous queries dealt with swiftly and efficiently by Marie and already looking at next year for a recommendation from Jeff. The hotel was great, although drinks very expensive, and the staff very good especially the young pro who sorted us out after finding us walking it the wrong direction! All around GREAT and THANK YOU." Mr Homer 30th April 2019
