Murcia Golf Courses

home spain murcia golf courses

The southern coast of Spain is a very popular region of Europe for playing golf and Murcia is no exception. The region and capital city are both called Murcia and the city is the seventh largest in Spain, making it a good base for a golf holiday.

Location

Located on the Segura River, in the southeast of the Spanish mainland. Situated between the Andalusian and Valencian districts, Murcia can be reached via its own airport, called Murcia-San Javier Airport. However, with Alicante just 70 kilometres away, many visitors find it easy to arrive at that airport and travel along the ground due to the more regular flights.

Climate

Murcia is a great place to play golf thanks to the hot semi-arid climate. Enjoying more than 320 days of sunshine throughout the year and you can enjoy playing golf at any time. The summers are hot and dry, with temperatures above 30 degrees between June and September. If you would like to play golf in cooler conditions, you can visit in March, April and October, November to find mild temperatures all be it with an increased chance of rain.

Landscape

The city sits in a low lying, fertile plain which is known as the Orchard. The region features a wide range of landscapes and this makes for some very interesting golf courses. There are several natural habitats ranging from the coast to further inland and these are home to plants and wildlife. The Regional Park of Sierra Espuna is perhaps the standout feature and the forested mountainous region has become a protected natural space of the Region of Murcia.

Top Golf Courses

You are spoilt for choice when it comes to playing golf and you will find perhaps one of the most well-known golf resorts in the world, La Manga.

La Manga is home to three excellent golf courses and each them feature highly on lists of the top courses in Spain. However, if you were to only play one of the La Manga golf courses, the West Course comes highly recommended. This course is very different to the other two at La Manga and comes complete with doglegs, pine trees and tight, strategic holes.

Other great golf courses include La Torre, el Valle, Roda, Alhama Signature and Mar Menor.
