Fuerteventura Golf Courses

home spain fuerteventura golf courses

The Canary Islands are a very popular holiday destination and home to some fantastic golf courses. With seven islands from which to choose, deciding where to stay and play golf can be tough but it’s difficult to ignore the pull of Fuerteventura. Here you will find the perfect combination of sun, sea and golf.

Location

Fuerteventura is the second largest of the Canary Islands after Tenerife and despite being located off the northwestern coast of Africa, remains under Spanish rule. However, it’s place in the Atlantic Ocean means it is classed as being part of the North African region. The airport is close to Puerto del Rosario and accepts daily flights from Spain and other European countries. There are also ferries which run from Tenerife, Grand Canaria and Lanzarote.

Climate

Thanks to the pleasant climate, Fuerteventura is a lovely place to play golf at all times of the year. Even in the winter months, temperatures can rise to 22 degrees and do not tend to fall much lower than 15 degrees. During summer, the mean high is 28 degrees, which means the temperature never becomes too hot to enjoy a great day on the golf course. December is the month which sees the most rain.

Landscape

Fuerteventura is divided into six municipalities and there are many individual settlements throughout each of them. If you are looking to relax on white sand beaches between your rounds of golf, Fuerteventura is the best island for you as it boasts the longest white sand beach in the Canary Islands. The central and higher areas of the island are quite barren yet spectacular and the highest point is Pico de la Zarza, some 800 metres above sea level.

Top Golf Courses

There are several excellent golf courses to play, but one of the best is Salinas de Antigua. This 18-hole links style course plays to just over 6,000 yards but is a par-70, making it a good test of golf. With four lakes, mounds, sand dunes and desert areas, accuracy is key to avoid the hazards. If you enjoy a tight course and playing strategically, Salinas de Antigua is the one for you.

Other top golf courses include Playitas Club, Jandia Golf Course and Mirador de Lobos.
