Nairn is the most westerly of a stretch of superb links golf courses from Fraserburgh to Inverness. Nairn Championship links have had a number of the game's greatest architects make subtle design changes to what is a stunning piece of land.
Archie Simpson, Old Tom Morris, James Braid (Twice) and Ben Sayers have all touched the land and created today's layout.
Many holes hug the beachfront and are well within play, Especially for those with a slice. In fact six of the opening 7 holes are on the coastline. Nairn is a fashionable holiday resort in its own right and you will often find those on the beach picking up stray golf balls.
The course is kept in exquisite shape with a notoriety of having some of the best greens in the Highlands.
Nairn is located very north and surprisingly despite the highland position is in fact one of the dryest places in Britain.
The 14th Hole is a Par 3 measuring over 210 yards from the tips. The first shot on the final par 3 at Nairn's is taken from the highest altitude on the golf course to a green below armored with four sand bunkers. The Moray Firth sits in the backdrop and the Black Isle in the distance. Although the drop-down to this green seems pretty straight forward the wind will certainly be a factor and reading the strength will be the only way of landing the ball on the putting surface. If you walk away with a par, you seriously have had a good hole.
A Highland Tour needs a course like Nairn included in the itinerary this gem will add a touch of variety but also some seaside views that are out of this world.
