Princes Golf Course
Prince’s had its proudest moment back in 1932 when it hosted the Open Championship, perfectly won by American Gene Sarazen in record fashion. Prince’s celebrated its 100th anniversary in 2006 and celebrated the occasion with the hosting of a number of prestigious events such as the Amateur Championship and the British Open Amateur Strokeplay Championship for ladies.
Though steeped in tradition, in an idealised coastal atmosphere, Prince’s Golf Club offers everything that’s great in competitive championship links golf. A host of Local Final Qualifying for the 2018 to 2022 Open Championship, Princes has co-hosted The Amateur Championship in 2013 and 2017.
Princes Golf Course – The Dunes
The Dunes shape is an anticlockwise circle of nine holes. Five holes out in a southerly direction to the Royal St. Georges perimeter and four back. With a thin green, hard to keep even with the simplest of approach shots, the dog-leg 1st hole is probably the most difficult on the course.
The Dunes is our favourite of the three nine hole loops and is paired perfectly with the Shore 9 Holes.
Princes Golf Course – The Shore
As its name suggests, from the beginning of this course , a clockwise loop of nine holes immediately tracks the Shoreline south towards the Lodge. The opening drive is simplistic but reaching the par 4 is still pretty hard.
The 5th is the post-war closing 18th hole and your approach shot will be played to the same green where Gene Sarazen won the Open Championship in 1932
Princes Golf Course – The Himalayas
The best nine according to the members has undergone a great improvement. Renowned architects Mackenzie & Ebert have rethought the course of the Himalayas. The 2nd hole, which has been merged with the 3rd hole to create a sweeping par 5 around wetlands to the old par 3 course, displays these improvements most clearly.
Whichever loop that you choose to play at Prices, You are guaranteed to play some of the very finest golf in the U.K. The Lodges at Prices are the perfect base for a trip to the South Coast and can be combined with so many truly outstanding golf courses nearby, Royal St. Georges is a stone’s throw away.
