Many people associate the Algarve with summer holidays and while it is a great place to enjoy a guaranteed week of sunshine, there is more to the south coast of Portugal than sunbathing. Golf is one of the Algarve’s biggest industries and its easy to see why with the natural landscape and climate.

You will struggle to find anywhere else on the planet which is home to as many championship golf courses as the Algarve, where you are spoilt for choice. However, since opening in 2002, this Club has become popular among locals and visitors alike.

Location

If you are arriving from outside of Portugal, you will be coming in to Faro International Airport and from here it takes just 45 minutes to reach the Course, which is on the western Algarve. With easy access to Lagos, Luz and Sagres, the golf course enjoys an enviable location on the Atlantic coast.

Within a few minutes from the course you can find sandy beaches and traditional towns and villages. So, if you would like to play a few rounds of top quality golf surrounded by the ocean, beaches and access to all the major Algarve attractions, Boavista is the right choice.

Course

The Boavista 18-hole championship golf course is famed for its great conditioning and even following spells of prolonged heat in the Algarve, the course remains in excellent condition.

Boasting lovely views towards the Atlantic and of the surrounding area, this is just one of the many positives of playing here. It is a challenging course yet remains very enjoyable to play and not every course manages to get the balance right in this respect but Boavista hits the nail on the head.

Every hole is memorable and the ravines and water hazards make for some very intriguing holes, where good strategy is required to have any chance of making a birdie or par. Umbrella pines, blossoming almond, fig and olive trees line the rolling fairways and add to the overall experience of the round without really coming into play.

The course uses the natural lay of the land with the undulating fairways and ravines and there are plenty of testing tee and fairway shots to play. Two examples are the 6th and 8th holes which require shots over a ravine.

The front nine holes climb to the highest point on the course, with the back nine descending towards the main resort buildings and featuring the bulk of the lakes, streams and bridges.
