Ballybunion Cashen course is The second course in the Ballybunion Golf club. It is always hard to match up to the Old Course as it is, without doubt, one of the finest golf courses in the world. However, The Cashen Course does a superb job and stands up as a stunning course in its own right. slightly more exposed to the elements and can be quite unforgiving if you find yourself out of position.
The course is set in hidden in higher and more dramatic sand dunes and although 300 yards shorter in length is considered to be harder than the Old Course.
The Cashen is considerably cheaper than the old course but never the less just as rewarding and enjoyable.
The golf course was opened for play in 1982 and designed by Robert Trent Jones Senior, which will attract many golfers instantly.
RTJ said that it was the finest piece of links‑land that he had ever seen, and perhaps the finest piece of links‑land in the world.
You will play eighteen spectacular holes, each with its own beauty and challenge. There is no similarity in any holes on the course. There are no weak holes and each is a spectacular gem.
We highly recommend adding the Cashen to any tour in the south of Ireland, You will not find this course a disappointment. We do edge you though to bring your ‘A’ game as it is a real test of nerve and shotmaking ability.
The 11th on the Cashen course is a real gem. You tee off from an elevated tee box alongside the ocean. The green is beautifully formed with grass traps in the face and will require nothing but precision and accuracy from tee to green.
