Sports fans will probably know the name Estoril, which has been made famous for hosting Formula 1 and other motorsports such as Moto GP at the Estoril circuit. However, other sports are also popular in this Portuguese town, including golf.
The pick of the golf courses is undoubtedly Estoril Golf Club, which was established in 1929. Following the opening of the course, Philip Mackenzie Ross remodeled the original 9 holes and added an additional 9 holes to make the main 18 hole course we see today.
This Golf Club is regarded as one of the most important golf clubs in Portugal and was instrumental in forming the Portuguese Golf Federation. The course has played host to the National Open Championship of Portugal many times between 1953 and 1987, hence the popularity of this golf course being including on many golfers Lisbon golf holiday packages.
